We are delighted to announce the 2020 laureates of the HUA BANG Prize after a five-month judging process by our independent judging committee. The HUA BANG Prize recognizes individuals and teams, who have contributed significantly to education research and education development. Professor Carl Wieman has been awarded the HUA BANG Prize for Education Research, while Lucy Lake and Angeline Murimirwa from CAMFED (Campaign for Female Education) have been granted the HUA BANG Prize for Education Development – the first team to be granted a HUA BANG Prize since its inception in 2017.

Professor Carl Wieman was awarded the HUA BANG Prize for Education Research for his contribution in developing new techniques and tools in STEM education. Carl is a pioneer of the use of new pedagogies in STEM education on college-level science teaching. His work has transformed the way STEM education is taught in major universities around the world. Lucy Lake and Angeline (Angie) Murimirwa were awarded the HUA BANG Prize for Education Development for their contribution to female education.
Lucy has pioneered strategies to increase school retention and learning among marginalized girls, benefiting over six million young people. Learn more about this laureate.
